Post number 100. Today marks my 100th blog so I thought I would review some of my previous posts.
Most Popular Book Review
Hacking Classroom Management. I read this book in the summer of 2023 and thought that it would make a nice series of posts. It has become one of the most consistently viewed posts that I have. Why?
Good teachers know the value of being able to properly manage a room full of kids. If you don’t have them managed well, you can’t teach them anything.
I revisited the 10 hacks here. If I were going to highlight one, I’d pick hack #9, “fist bumps, high fives and shout outs”. Stand at that door and connect with students!!
You don’t have to be a teacher to use these hacks. A good manager uses these skills as well.
Most enjoyable movie review
I thoroughly enjoyed comparing the John Wick and Equalizer movies. I wrote this post in January of 2024 after watching both of these series of films. My son’s a big fan of the Wick movies, and I like Denzel Washington.
After watching these movies and wading through the enormous amount of violence, it occurred to me that these movies espoused very different world views.
You can take a look at the post and see what I mean. My other movie review can be found here.
Most personal
Going to Nationals is my most personal post. I wrote this in November of 2023. It’s the type of post that I had in mind when I first started to blog. I wanted to share my personal experiences.
I was part of an exceptional high school band program. We had fantastic staff members and incredibly supportive parents. The experience of being in the Norwin Band changed my life and I wanted to share that with others.
The post has also meant a great deal to my fellow Norwin band members and staff. “Nobody Does (Did) it Better!”
Life changing
We rise and fall with our habits. In July of 2023 I wrote a post called “3 habits for life transformation“. I referenced this in three other posts, because I believe very strongly in these three habits.
The three habits are; Bible reading, Walking and Meditating. You can read the post for more detail. I continue to believe that they are keystone habits that will change your life.
Band
I have twelve pages of posts that deal with band in one way or another. Band has been a big part of my life for well over fifty years. God has used this art/activity to mold me and shape me into the person that I am today.
My first post that referenced band was, “The Influence of Men“. I wrote this post in honor of two men; my Dad and my band director LJ Hancock. I tried to describe how much influence they had on me, but I know that I fell short.
In January 2024 I wrote a post called, “At the Crossroads“. This is one of my more emotional band posts. I talk about my final marching band show as a band director. Will Smith and I produced a show called “At the Crossroads” in 2015 not knowing that it would be our last.
Bittersweet memories.
Miscellaneous gems
I watched the Ted Lasso series in the summer of 2023 and loved it. The characters inspired me to write a four part series on leadership based on the various characters from the show.
There are numerous posts that reference my time at Lynchburg Christian Academy. These were times of extreme highs and lows. I learned a lot!
My posts from The King’s Academy can be found here. There is undoubtedly still much that could be written about those sixteen years.
If you want to get a good laugh at my expense, take a look at my summer jobs. My summer work while I was in college was an epic fail!
Thank you!
Thank you for reading post number 100. I believe that God has given me some great stories to tell and I’m grateful to have a platform where I can write them down.
See you next week!
